Glossary
Definitions of the main terms used in Overlayer's protocol and VISION documentation.
Assets and yield
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Underlying stablecoin | The stablecoin backing an Overlaid Asset family. For example, USDC is the underlying stablecoin of C+ and sC+. |
| Overlaid Asset | The liquid, transferable, non-rebasing representation of a supported stablecoin position. Holding it alone does not distribute protocol staking yield. |
| Staked Overlaid Asset | A share-based representation used to participate in the yield allocated to an asset family's staking position. For example, sC+ is the staked representation of C+. |
The underlying stablecoin, base asset and staked representation serve distinct functions within the same asset family.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Backing | The on-chain position supporting outstanding Overlaid Asset supply. |
| Isolated backing | Separate backing and accounting for each asset family, rather than a shared collateral pool. |
| Non-rebasing | Token balances do not automatically increase as the backing generates yield. |
| Conversion ratio | The amount of base Overlaid Assets represented by one staked token. For example, a ratio of 1.10 C+ per sC+ means that 100 sC+ represents 110 C+. |
Yield allocated to staking changes the amount represented by each share, rather than increasing the holder's number of staked tokens.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Staking ratio | The proportion of an asset family's base-token supply participating in staking, measured in base-asset units. |
| Overyield | The concentration effect created when yield generated by a broader backing base is allocated across a smaller amount of staked capital. |
| Performance fee | The portion of generated yield retained before the remaining yield is allocated to stakers. It is not charged as a percentage of deposited principal. |
| OVER | Overlayer's governance and ecosystem coordination token. It is separate from the assets backing Overlaid Assets and does not provide an entitlement to their staking yield. |
Overyield depends on lending returns, staking participation and applicable fees.
For the mechanisms, see Staked Overlaid Assets and Yield & Overyield.
VISION and points
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| VISION | Overlayer's first mainnet Farming Season, through which eligible participation generates points used for OVER allocation. |
| Farming deposit | The additional deposit of an eligible asset into a Farming position to generate points. It is separate from minting or staking an Overlaid Asset. |
| Base Staking Points — BSP | Points generated by eligible Farming deposits according to deposited value, point rate and elapsed time. |
| Boost | A percentage increase applied to BSP production. Active boost percentages add together. |
| Additional Points | Points earned through mechanisms such as referrals, team leadership and selected ecosystem activities. Boosts do not apply to them. |
| Total Score | The combined score from staking points, including applicable boosts, and Additional Points. It is used for rankings and allocation calculations. |
Staking yield and VISION points are separate systems: participating in one does not automatically enroll a position in the other.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Season Average TVL | The time-weighted average of global outstanding Overlaid Asset supply over the full season, counting each base Overlaid Asset nominally as $1. |
| Reward Pool | The amount of OVER allocated to VISION based on the final Season Average TVL. |
| Final Allocation | A participant's score-based OVER allocation plus any individual or team prizes, before Claim Game choices. |
| Claim Game | The post-season choice between Fast Claim and Long-Term Vesting, determining how an allocation becomes claimable, vested, burned or redistributed. |
The Reward Pool determines the amount available for the season; a participant's score and prizes determine their Final Allocation.
For calculations, see How Points Work and Reward Pool & Season TVL. For release options, see Claim Game & Vesting.
NFTs and boosts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| OG boost | The BSP bonus associated with eligible OG NFT ownership, recognized across supported chains for the same wallet. |
| Utility NFT | An NFT staked to activate a BSP boost on a specific chain. A wallet can activate one Utility NFT per chain. |
| Origin NFT | The base Utility NFT tier: Shrimp Origin, Dolphin Origin or Whale Origin. |
| Entropy NFT | The upgraded Utility NFT created through Maelstrom by combining and burning three Origin NFTs of the same type and chain. |
| Special NFT | An NFT providing an individually defined BSP boost through a separate slot, alongside the wallet's Utility NFT on that chain. |
NFT boosts affect point production, not the staking yield of Overlaid Assets.
